What the flocked surface does

The pad face carries an enormous number of short fibres standing upright, which behaves very differently from a woven nap. It holds a large reservoir of finish and releases it gradually and evenly, so the film goes down flat and stays flat. That is what suppresses the two defects that ruin a clear coat: streaking, where the pad runs dry mid pass, and bubbles, which cure into the surface and cannot be polished out afterwards. It is also the reason flocked pads displaced lambskin for fine work, since lambskin sheds and on a clear finish a single fibre is visible once cured.
