Why fixed rather than adjustable

A fixed pole has no locking mechanism, which means it has nothing to slip under load and nothing to wear out. On an adjustable pole the twist lock is the part that eventually fails, and it fails while you are leaning on it. For repeated work at a single height this is the more dependable tool, and usually the cheaper one.

The four foot length

Four feet is the practical middle: enough to reach a standard ceiling from the floor and to work a floor from standing height, short enough to handle in a normal room without the tail end finding a doorframe. It is a sensible single pole for someone who does not need a range of lengths.
