At 7 3/4 inches wide the smoother spans a joint in one stroke, and because the plastic flexes it follows the surface and feathers the compound out rather than cutting a ridge into it. That is what leaves a flat wall that needs less sanding.

Wallcovering

The same flex makes it the tool for hanging paper and vinyl. It presses a sheet down without scratching the face, works air bubbles out to the edge, and creases the material cleanly into an internal corner or against trim so it can be trimmed to a straight line.

Plastic, not steel

Plastic will not rust, will not mark a finished surface, and wipes clean of waterborne compound and paste.
